Is Dyson’s mushroom haircare effective after months of testing in the lab?

Dyson Harnesses Power of Mushrooms to Prevent Frizz in Hair

Dyson Unveils Mushroom-Based Hair Products to Tame Frizz

In a surprising move, engineering giant Dyson has announced the launch of a new haircare range that harnesses the power of mushrooms to combat frizz. The company claims to have discovered a secret ingredient within oyster mushrooms that can help keep hair in place, thanks to a macromolecule that helps the fragile fungi stay intact.

The serum and cream, priced at £49 per bottle, are said to contain extracts from up to eight oyster mushrooms. Robyn Coutts, a senior design manager at Dyson, explained, “Oyster mushrooms are commonly used for skincare, but what we found was it was able to help with the hold of hair.”

The use of mushrooms in beauty products is not entirely new, as mushrooms have been used for medicinal and health purposes for millennia. However, some in the scientific community remain skeptical about their effectiveness. Despite this, Dyson is confident in the benefits of their mushroom-based hair products.

The key ingredient in the products is chitosan, a sugar derived from chitin found in the cell walls of mushrooms. This substance helps to bind substances together and give structure to the hair without making it feel crunchy. Dyson claims that after extensive testing, their products resulted in up to 50% less unwanted frizz when used.

The new hair range also boasts sustainability features, such as refillable bottles and a pump that can be reused up to 50,000 times. The products are scented with basil, bamboo leaf, and carnations, and come in two varieties for different hair types.

While Dyson is best known for its innovative vacuum cleaners and fans, the company saw an opportunity to enter the haircare market due to its existing hair science laboratory and expertise in hair manipulation. With the launch of their mushroom-based hair products, Dyson is hoping to make a mark in the beauty industry and provide consumers with a new solution for frizz-free hair.

Whether these products will revolutionize the beauty industry remains to be seen, but Dyson’s foray into mushroom-based haircare is certainly a unique and intriguing development.
