Jam Miller’s Injury: Impact on Alabama’s Rushing Game Ahead of SEC Opener
Alabama’s Jam Miller Expected to Return for SEC Opener Despite Injury Setback
TUSCALOOSA, AL — Alabama running back Jam Miller is nursing an upper-body injury but is optimistic about his return for the SEC opener against Georgia on September 27. Coach Kalen DeBoer confirmed that Miller, who suffered a collarbone injury during a recent scrimmage, will miss the season opener against Florida State on August 30.
The Crimson Tide will face ULM and Wisconsin in the weeks leading up to the bye week, which could provide Miller with the necessary recovery time. “He’s a leader for us, a quiet leader, but somebody the players all respect,” DeBoer stated. “Having that bye week, I feel good that he will be back out there. He does so many things for us at that position.”
Miller’s presence is crucial for Alabama’s offense, especially following the departures of key players like quarterback Jalen Milroe to the NFL and running back Justice Haynes to Michigan. Last season, Miller led the team with 668 rushing yards and seven touchdowns, making him a pivotal part of the Crimson Tide’s game plan.
In Miller’s absence, Alabama’s coaching staff is looking to running backs Daniel Hill, Richard Young, and Dre Washington to step up. Offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb noted that redshirt freshman Kevin Riley has been making strides, despite being undersized. “It’s going to be a little bit by committee until Jam gets back,” Grubb said. “I’m excited to see who’s going to come out here these next few days and take over.”
With a focus on the passing game during Miller’s recovery, Alabama aims to maintain its offensive momentum. The team finished last season with a 9-4 record and ranked sixth in rushing within the SEC.
As the Crimson Tide prepares for the upcoming season, all eyes will be on Miller’s recovery and the impact of his potential return against Georgia.
