Political Strategist Jennifer Gonring Joins SAG-AFTRA Foundation as Chief Strategy Officer

In a significant move for the entertainment industry, Jennifer Gonring, a renowned political strategist, is set to join the SAG-AFTRA Foundation as its new Chief Strategy Officer. The announcement was made on Wednesday by the nonprofit organization, which provides essential resources and professional development for SAG-AFTRA union members.

Courtney B. Vance, chairman of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation board, expressed enthusiasm about Gonring’s appointment, stating, “It’s a big win for us. Jennifer’s distinctive experience and demonstrated record are a huge asset for our team as we move into our next chapter.”

Gonring’s appointment comes at a pivotal time as she embarks on her own venture with the consulting firm Principle Partner, aimed at helping creative and political leaders forge beneficial alliances and expand their audiences. While she will focus on the SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s growth through events and industry partnerships, she will also continue her role as a principal strategist at her previous firm, Gonring Lin Spahn, which she co-founded in 2006.

With a client roster that includes high-profile organizations such as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and Comcast, as well as notable individuals like Steven Spielberg and J.J. Abrams, Gonring brings a wealth of experience to her new role. Her previous work with the SAG-AFTRA Foundation includes developing the Patron of the Artists Awards and raising funds during the COVID-19 pandemic and recent industry strikes.

As the foundation prepares for a leadership transition—current COO Charlotte Wells will take over as executive director next year—Gonring’s expertise will be crucial in navigating the challenges faced by industry workers amid ongoing economic pressures.

“I’m excited to help build on that success from the inside,” Gonring said in a statement. “We’ve partnered through industry-wide work shutdowns and challenges, and I’ve seen up close what the Foundation does to strengthen skills and careers overall.”

With Gonring at the helm of strategy, the SAG-AFTRA Foundation is poised to enhance its impact and support for union members during a time of significant change in the entertainment landscape.
