Missouri Set to Launch Legal Sports Betting This December

Missouri is gearing up for a significant milestone in its gaming landscape, with both retail and online sports betting set to launch on December 1, 2025. This eagerly anticipated rollout means that while fans will have to wait until the end of the football season to place bets, the groundwork is being laid for a vibrant new market.
Starting November 17, authorized mobile sports betting companies will be allowed to set up online accounts and accept deposits. If they hold temporary licenses, they can begin live wagering at midnight on December 1, according to the Missouri Gaming Commission.
In a surprising twist, DraftKings MO and Circa Sports were awarded untethered licenses in August, leaving FanDuel MO—which had projected the highest revenue potential—out of the running for a standalone license. FanDuel will now need to partner with a casino or professional sports team to operate in the state.
“Winning one of Missouri’s first two untethered mobile betting licenses is a great honor,” said Derek Stevens, CEO of Circa Sports. “We came in as the long shot against national giants like DraftKings and FanDuel, but our licensure approval today proves there’s room for a different kind of operator.”
Missouri will become the only state in the nation to launch sports betting in 2025, marking its entry as the 39th state to legalize the practice.
A Competitive Landscape
The list of applicants for sports betting licenses in Missouri is extensive, with both mobile and retail operators vying for a piece of the action. Notable applicants include:
- Argosy Riverside Casino
- bet365
- BetMGM
- Caesars Sportsbook
- DraftKings
- FanDuel
- Hollywood Casino St. Louis
All applicants must undergo a regulatory review and verification process before they can operate.
Partnerships and Community Support
In an exciting development, bet365 has partnered with the St. Louis Cardinals, becoming the team’s Official Betting Partner. Meanwhile, BetMGM is teaming up with Century Casino & Hotel Cape Girardeau to bring its sports betting platforms to the state.
The push for legal sports betting in Missouri gained momentum after a campaign led by the state’s professional sports teams. Voters narrowly approved the ballot measure last November, with the measure passing by fewer than 10,000 votes out of 2.9 million cast.
What to Expect
Missouri’s new law allows for online betting statewide and permits professional sports teams to establish retail sports betting locations near their stadiums. Eligible teams include the Kansas City Chiefs, St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Royals, St. Louis Blues, St. Louis City SC, and Kansas City Current.
The state’s six casino operators will also be allowed to operate retail sportsbooks and online casinos. Additionally, two licenses will be available for online betting companies that do not partner with either a casino or professional sports team.
As Missouri prepares for its sports betting debut, fans can currently access fantasy sports platforms like DraftKings, FanDuel, PrizePicks, and Underdog Fantasy. However, traditional sports betting will not be available until the statewide launch.
With the regulatory framework still being established, Missouri is poised to follow the lead of neighboring states that have successfully implemented sports betting since the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2018 repeal of PASPA. As the launch date approaches, all eyes will be on the Show Me State to see how it navigates this new frontier in gaming.
