Slight Decrease in TV Ratings Compared to 2020

Featured Image and Audience Numbers for Republican National Convention Closing Night

The Republican National Convention’s closing night, featuring former President Donald Trump’s acceptance speech, drew the largest TV audience of the week. With an average of 25.38 million viewers across 14 outlets, the event saw a 7 percent increase from the 2020 convention’s final night. The audience peaked at 28.4 million viewers during Trump’s speech.

Overall, the four nights of the convention averaged 19.07 million viewers, slightly below the 2020 convention’s average of 19.39 million. While Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday saw slight increases in viewership compared to four years ago, Tuesday’s numbers dropped by 24 percent, possibly due to competition from the Major League Baseball All-Star Game.

The majority of Thursday’s audience consisted of people over 55, making up about 72 percent of the total viewers. Fox News led in viewership for all four nights, with NBC, ABC, and CNN following behind. Other networks like CBS, MSNBC, and PBS also contributed to the total viewership.

Despite not surpassing the 2020 convention’s overall numbers, the Republican National Convention’s closing night proved to be a significant draw for viewers, especially during Trump’s speech.
