Power Outages Disrupt Subway Service in Manhattan for the Second Time This Week
Manhattan, NY — Subway riders in Manhattan faced significant disruptions Thursday morning as a power outage near the West 4th Street-Washington Square station led to suspensions and delays across multiple lines. This incident marks the second power-related disruption in just a few days, leaving commuters frustrated and stranded.
According to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), the A, B, C, D, E, F, and M lines were affected as crews rushed to investigate the cause of the latest power loss. As of 11 a.m., the B and C lines were completely suspended, while the D and M lines experienced partial suspensions. The A, E, and F lines also reported significant disruptions.
This latest outage follows a similar incident earlier in the week, where riders were left stuck on trains for nearly an hour due to power issues. MTA New York City Transit President Demetrius Crichlow suggested that extreme heat could have contributed to the earlier outage, stating, “Heat will cause a strain on the system.”
Crichlow emphasized the need for improvements, noting that many of the subway’s substations have gone without repairs for an extended period. “This capital plan really does invest in better substations and then the tools that come along with having a new substation,” he explained.
As investigations continue into the cause of Thursday’s outage, the MTA has not yet provided details on what triggered the power loss. Commuters are advised to stay updated on service changes as the situation develops.
