Survivor Introduces Haircare Line Following Cancer Journey

Local Cancer Survivor Launches Natural Haircare Line to Support Others Facing Hair Loss

TAMPA, Fla. — Local Cancer Survivor Launches Natural Haircare Line to Support Others Facing Hair Loss

In a heartwarming tale of resilience and innovation, Monica Smith, a cancer survivor from the Tampa Bay area, is on a mission to help others navigate the challenges of hair loss during chemotherapy. Her new product line, Sober Roots, aims to provide a safe and effective haircare solution for those undergoing treatment.

Diagnosed with stage two colon cancer during the pandemic, Smith faced the daunting reality of hair loss. Frustrated by the lack of options for haircare products free from harmful chemicals, she decided to take matters into her own hands. “When I started losing my hair, I realized there weren’t many products available that didn’t contain alcohol or other harsh ingredients,” Smith explained. “So, I met with a manufacturing company, and together we created an amazing formula using alcohol-free essential oils.”

The inspiration for Sober Roots came during an unexpected encounter while driving for Uber. One of her passengers, a professor at the University of Tampa, encouraged her to join a business incubator program. This pivotal moment propelled Smith into the world of entrepreneurship, allowing her to officially launch her haircare line.

Sober Roots is designed with the unique needs of those experiencing hair loss in mind. “If you have hair loss, it’s crucial to avoid chemical-laden products,” Smith emphasized. “Keeping your hair in its natural state can help prevent further loss and promote new growth. Whether you have fine hair or need hydration for curls, our products cater to various needs without weighing down your hair.”

Currently, Smith sells her products at various pop-up events throughout the Tampa Bay area. However, she has ambitious plans to open her own storefront, fueled by ongoing fundraising efforts. “I’m so close to making this dream a reality,” she said, her eyes shining with determination.

As Smith continues her journey, she hopes to inspire others facing similar battles. “I want people to know that they’re not alone in this fight,” she said. “With Sober Roots, I aim to provide not just a product, but a sense of community and support for those dealing with hair loss.”

With her innovative approach and personal story, Monica Smith is not just creating a product; she’s fostering hope and healing for many in the Tampa Bay area and beyond.
