He lamented the shutdown’s impact on essential services, stating, “This has sadly affected so many programs, services, and other elements of Society that Americans rely on — And it should not have happened.”

Trump’s call to action follows a failed Republican bid to reopen the government, which has now entered its second week. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and most Democrats have insisted that any funding agreement must include an extension of expiring ObamaCare subsidies, a point of contention that has stalled negotiations.
