Tragic Loss: Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s Body to be Returned to Los Angeles After Drowning Incident in Costa Rica
Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s Body to Be Flown to Los Angeles Following Tragic Drowning
Los Angeles, CA — The beloved actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner, best known for his role as Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show, tragically passed away on Sunday, July 20, after an accidental drowning in Costa Rica. His body is set to be flown back to Los Angeles, with arrangements made by his family and the U.S. Embassy.
Warner, 54, was swimming off Playa Grande in Cahuita, Limon, when he was caught in a strong current. Despite the heroic efforts of bystanders and the Costa Rican Red Cross, he was pronounced dead at the scene after approximately 20 minutes of CPR. The Judicial Investigation Agency confirmed that the cause of death was asphyxiation by submersion, ruling it an accident.
The morgue in Costa Rica released Warner’s body to a funeral service company on Wednesday morning, following the completion of his autopsy. His remains are scheduled to leave Costa Rica on Thursday and are expected to arrive in Los Angeles on Friday.
At the time of the incident, Warner was reportedly in Costa Rica with his daughter, participating in a home-schooling program. His wife, who had been visiting earlier, was not present during the tragic event and learned of his passing via phone after returning to the United States.
In a heartbreaking twist, a 29-year-old man from Nicaragua also attempted to rescue Warner but was pulled under by the current himself. He was later rescued and transported to a nearby clinic in critical condition but has since been stabilized and discharged without major injuries.
Fans and friends have taken to social media to express their grief over Warner’s untimely death. One fan shared, “I watched a video this morning of an interview with Malcolm-Jamal Warner and immediately started crying. He wanted people to know he was a good guy.” Another added, “That being her last memory of her dad is heartbreaking,” referring to Warner’s daughter.
As the entertainment community mourns the loss of a cherished figure, Warner’s legacy as a talented actor and a kind-hearted individual will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of many.
