Angola Advances National Cybersecurity Initiatives

Angola Takes Bold Steps Towards Cybersecurity with New National Strategy

Luanda, Oct. 27, 2025 (Lusa) — In a significant move to bolster its digital defenses, Angola’s Cabinet, led by President João Lourenço, has approved the establishment of a National Cybersecurity Centre and a National Cybersecurity Council. This decision, made during a meeting on Monday, marks a pivotal step in the country’s commitment to enhancing its cybersecurity framework.

The newly approved decrees are part of a comprehensive National Cybersecurity Strategy aimed at positioning Angola as a secure and competitive player in the global digital landscape. The strategy emphasizes an innovative and inclusive approach to technological advancement, aligning with international standards and best practices.

The National Cybersecurity Council will serve as a multidisciplinary advisory body to the government, facilitating collaboration between public and private sectors. This council is tasked with ensuring the protection and resilience of Angolan cyberspace, a critical component in safeguarding national interests in an increasingly interconnected world.

In addition to the cybersecurity initiatives, the Cabinet also reviewed a draft bill aimed at combating false information on the Internet. This legislation seeks to establish a new legal framework for accountability regarding the production and dissemination of misleading content online, reflecting the government’s commitment to fostering a trustworthy digital environment.

Furthermore, the Cabinet considered amendments to the General Regulation on Electronic Communications. These changes are designed to streamline the legal framework governing electronic communications networks and services, encouraging investment and the emergence of new operators in the sector.

As Angola embarks on this ambitious cybersecurity journey, the government aims to create a robust digital ecosystem that not only protects its citizens but also promotes economic growth and innovation in the technology sector. With these strategic initiatives, Angola is poised to navigate the complexities of the digital age while ensuring the safety and security of its cyberspace.
