Seneca Nation’s Economic Impact in Western New York Nears $2 Billion, Supporting Over 8,000 Jobs
Buffalo, NY — A groundbreaking report commissioned by the Seneca Nation reveals that the tribe’s economic footprint in Western New York is nearly $2 billion, bolstering over 8,000 jobs across 16 counties. The independent analysis, conducted by Meister Economic Consulting, highlights the significant contributions of the Seneca Nation’s government operations and business enterprises for the year 2024, expressed in 2025 dollars.
The findings, released in a press statement, detail a total economic output of $1.9 billion, with 8,014 jobs directly and indirectly supported by the tribe’s activities. This includes $542.7 million in wages and $365.9 million in taxes and payments to federal, state, and local governments.
Among the tribe’s employment figures, 4,623 full-time and part-time workers are directly employed by the Seneca Nation, with casino operations at Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino, Seneca Allegany Resort & Casino, and Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino accounting for approximately 3,000 of these positions. This makes the Seneca Nation the 12th largest employer in the region.
“Our economic reach across our ancestral homelands is wide and growing,” said Seneca Nation President J. Conrad Seneca during a press conference in Buffalo. “The Seneca Nation’s continued presence and leadership in Western New York provides important fuel to the region’s economy. Moreover, we provide for and help sustain the livelihoods of thousands of individuals and families who, like us, call this region home.”
The Seneca Nation operates 34 businesses across diverse industries, including gaming, hospitality, retail, fuel operations, banking, information technology, healthcare, and cultural preservation. Earlier this year, the tribe expanded its portfolio by acquiring the Rochester Knighthawks, a National Lacrosse League franchise, further solidifying its commitment to professional sports in the region.
“Today’s study confirms what we already knew: the Seneca Nation creates jobs and drives growth — all without taxpayer dollars or subsidies,” stated Seneca Nation Councilor Odie Porter. “Our goal is simple—keep building our future for Senecas and for Western New York, free of outside government interference. We’re not outsiders. We don’t need to be lured into investing here. This is our home, and we’re not going anywhere. We’re going to make it better.”
Revenue generated from the tribe’s enterprises funds a wide array of government services for approximately 8,600 enrolled members, including education, healthcare, housing, public safety, and vocational training, as well as support for elders, veterans, and individuals with disabilities.
“We are here and we are forever committed to this region,” President Seneca emphasized. “The Seneca Nation has helped move the Western New York economy forward in a significant way that few others can match. With each step we take and each investment we continue to make, the benefits we deliver to our people improve, and the economic impact we have here in Western New York grows stronger.”
As the Seneca Nation continues to thrive and expand its influence, the report underscores the tribe’s integral role in shaping the economic landscape of Western New York, fostering growth and opportunity for all who call the region home.
