Tragedy Strikes Andhra Pradesh: 13 Workers Killed in Reactor Explosion

At least 13 workers were tragically killed and several others injured in a devastating reactor explosion that rocked Andhra Pradesh’s Anakapalle district on Wednesday. The incident occurred at the plant of pharma company Escientia Advanced Sciences Pvt Ltd in the Achutapuram Special Economic Zone.

Fortunately, a major disaster was averted as the blast occurred during lunchtime when the staff presence was lower than usual. Those injured have been rushed to NTR Hospital for urgent medical treatment. Officials suspect the explosion may have been caused by an electricity-related fire, and the Fire Department is currently engaged in rescue operations.

A total of 30 injured individuals have been transferred to various hospitals in Anakapalli and Atchutapuram. District Collector Vijaya Krishnan reported that 13 people who were initially trapped in the unit have been successfully rescued. However, rescue teams are facing challenges entering the premises due to dense smoke.

The tragic incident has prompted an outpouring of grief and condolences from Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who has pledged government support for the families of the deceased workers. This latest industrial accident adds to a string of similar incidents in recent months, including a blast at a stone quarry in Tamil Nadu and a boiler explosion at a cement brick manufacturing factory in Maharashtra.
