China Showcases Environmental Progress at COP30 in Brazil

BEIJING, CHINA – November 20, 2025 – At the 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) held in Belém, Brazil, China took center stage to highlight its significant strides in environmental sustainability and its commitment to building an ecological civilization. The event, hosted at the China Pavilion on November 10, attracted senior Chinese officials and prominent UN climate leaders, all united under the theme of creating a “Beautiful China.”

China’s Minister of Ecology and Environment, Huang Runqiu, emphasized the nation’s elevated focus on ecological civilization since 2012, integrating efforts in carbon reduction, pollution control, and ecosystem restoration. “China has created remarkable ecological and green development miracles,” he stated, reaffirming the country’s commitment to advancing its ecological vision through robust measures and international cooperation.

Li Gao, head of China’s COP30 delegation, echoed this sentiment, asserting that China remains a “determined actor and major contributor to global green development.” He called for enhanced unity among nations to foster a clean and sustainable world, while highlighting China’s role in multilateral climate processes.

Keynote speakers, including UNFCCC Executive Secretary Simon Stiell and UNEP Executive Director Inger Andersen, praised China’s contributions to global climate action. Stiell described China as a “cornerstone of global climate action,” while Andersen noted the country’s leadership in electric vehicle production and its expanding carbon market, which serve as valuable lessons for other nations.

The session also marked a significant moment, coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement and the fifth anniversary of China’s carbon peaking and neutrality pledges. Liu Zhenmin, China’s climate envoy, unveiled the country’s updated nationally determined contributions, sending a “strong signal” of its resolve to combat climate change.

In addition to speeches, two reports detailing China’s progress in ecological civilization and climate policy were released, alongside a global launch of a public-interest song aimed at promoting environmental awareness.

Hosted by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and the Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization Research Center, the session aimed to share experiences, build consensus, and support the COP30 agenda, reinforcing China’s commitment to a sustainable future.

As the world grapples with the escalating climate crisis, China’s proactive stance at COP30 serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility nations share in addressing environmental challenges.
