Three Amateur Golfers Earn Coveted Spots in BMW PGA Championship Pro-Am
The Grove, UK – In a thrilling conclusion to the Golf Foundation’s Unleash Your Drive Final, three amateur golfers have secured their places in the prestigious BMW PGA Championship Pro-Am, set to take place at Wentworth this September. The event, held at The Grove, saw 60 players compete for the opportunity, with the stakes high and excitement palpable.
The winners—Thomas Peachey, 13, from Peterborough Milton Golf Club, Paul McHugh from Royal Blackheath, and Colin McGee from Pine Ridge Golf Club—each showcased their skills in a fiercely contested qualifier. Peachey emerged victorious with an impressive score of 43 points, while McHugh and McGee both finished strong with 41 points.
Golf Foundation President Nick Dougherty was on hand to celebrate the achievements of the players, presenting them with prizes generously donated by TaylorMade. “It’s such a privilege to work with the Golf Foundation, a charity that helped me in my formative junior days,” Dougherty remarked. “We aim to provide all young people in schools with the development tools and opportunities that golf uniquely offers.”
This year marks a significant milestone for the Golf Foundation, as it has been named the nominated charity for the BMW PGA Championship for the first time. The initiative is part of a broader fundraising campaign that saw 147 clubs participate, with over 3,500 golfers vying for a chance to compete alongside Europe’s Ryder Cup Team.
For Colin McGee, the victory holds special significance. “Winning a place to play in a pro-am at Wentworth is the best thing that has happened in my 51 years of golf,” he shared. “At 71 years old, I doubt I would ever have this opportunity again.”
Joel Westwell, Director of Golf at The Grove, expressed his enthusiasm for hosting the event. “We were delighted to welcome The Golf Foundation, Nick Dougherty, and the winners of the Unleash Your Drive qualifying competitions to The Grove. It’s been a fantastic day both on and off the course.”
As the countdown to the BMW PGA Championship Pro-Am begins, the excitement continues to build for these amateur golfers, who will soon find themselves teeing off alongside some of the sport’s elite. The event not only highlights their individual talents but also underscores the Golf Foundation’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of golfers.
