Jane Fonda at 87: Feeling Younger and Refusing Stereotypes in Hollywood

Jane Fonda: “I Feel Better at 87 Than in My 20s”

Hollywood icon Jane Fonda has made headlines with her bold assertion that she feels more vibrant and healthier at 87 than she did in her youth. In a candid interview with the Daily Telegraph, Fonda expressed her refusal to conform to ageist stereotypes in Hollywood, stating, “I’m 87, and I feel younger and healthier and a greater sense of well-being than I had in my 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s.”

Fonda, known for her groundbreaking roles and activism, has been vocal about the limited and often stereotypical roles offered to older actresses. “I’m 87, I don’t feel done yet. Roles that I’m offered are really sad,” she lamented, emphasizing that the industry often overlooks the depth and experience that seasoned actors bring to the table. “They are not worthy of my six decades of being in this industry,” she added.

Despite the challenges of aging in Hollywood, Fonda remains a beacon of positivity. “I’m happy… I think one of the greatest things that we can attain is a robust sense of well-being, of happiness,” she shared. Her commitment to fitness plays a significant role in her outlook; she still works out with a trainer daily and enjoys outdoor activities like walking in the woods.

Recently, Fonda has been in the spotlight for her collaboration with sneaker brand Golden Goose, promoting their 25th anniversary campaign. “It never occurred to me with this campaign, ‘Oh, God, isn’t this great. They’re using an old woman,'” she reflected. “But now that I think about it, it is cool. I like that.”

Fonda’s journey in the entertainment industry spans over six decades, with iconic roles in films like Barbarella, Klute, and 9 to 5. She also revolutionized the fitness industry with her workout videos in the 1980s, selling 17 million copies and inspiring countless women to embrace fitness.

As she continues to defy age-related stereotypes, Fonda’s message is clear: age is just a number, and with the right mindset and lifestyle, one can thrive at any stage of life. “I don’t feel like an old person. I’m much younger than I was when I was in my 20s, in all the ways that matter,” she concluded, inspiring many to rethink their perceptions of aging.

With her unwavering spirit and commitment to authenticity, Jane Fonda remains a powerful force in Hollywood and beyond, proving that life can be just as vibrant and fulfilling at 87 as it was in her youth.
