Eunice Kim Steps Down as Netflix Chief Product Officer After Five Transformative Years

In a surprising move, Eunice Kim, Netflix’s Chief Product Officer, is set to depart the streaming giant after five impactful years. While the reasons behind her departure remain undisclosed, the announcement has sent ripples through the tech and entertainment industries.

Kim joined Netflix in 2021, initially leading the Consumer Product Innovation team. Her ascent to Chief Product Officer came in 2023, a role in which she played a pivotal part in shaping the platform’s user experience and expanding its offerings. Under her leadership, Netflix saw its membership soar from 200 million to over 300 million, thanks in part to major initiatives like the introduction of an ad-supported plan and a revamped product experience that now includes live events and gaming.

In a statement, Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters expressed gratitude for Kim’s contributions, stating, “I’m incredibly grateful for Eunice’s leadership and partnership during a pivotal time for our business. She has made many significant contributions to Netflix — most recently launching our new TV experience. We thank her for everything and look forward to following her continued success.”

Kim echoed Peters’ sentiments, reflecting on her time at Netflix: “I’m grateful for the opportunity to have worked with such a talented team. I’m proud of what we built, and I’m excited to see what’s next for the company.”

In the interim, Chief Technology Officer Elizabeth Stone will assume Kim’s responsibilities as Netflix begins the search for her successor.

Before her tenure at Netflix, Kim spent a decade in product leadership roles at Google Play and YouTube, and her diverse career includes stints at tech startups, PepsiCo, and Adobe Systems. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Additionally, Kim serves on the board of directors for Cure CMD, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing research and treatment for congenital muscular dystrophy.

As Netflix navigates this transition, the industry watches closely to see how Kim’s departure will impact the streaming service’s future innovations and strategies.
