Ohio Secretary of State Identifies Over 1,000 Noncitizens Registered to Vote, Refers Cases for Prosecution

Ohio Secretary of State Targets Noncitizen Voter Registration in Major Crackdown

COLUMBUS, OH — In a significant move to uphold election integrity, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose announced that his office has identified over 1,000 noncitizens registered to vote in the state. The cases, which include evidence of unlawful voting, have been forwarded to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) for potential prosecution.

In a detailed letter, LaRose outlined the findings of his Election Integrity Unit, revealing that 1,084 noncitizens were registered to vote, with 167 of them having cast ballots in federal elections during the last four election cycles—2018, 2020, 2022, and the upcoming 2024 elections.

“Ohio has earned its reputation as the Gold Standard, and our Election Integrity Unit continues to prove why,” LaRose stated. “We work tirelessly to ensure that every eligible voter’s voice is heard, and anyone who tries to cheat the system will face serious consequences.”

The evidence submitted to the DOJ includes alarming instances of electoral misconduct, such as:

  • 99 individuals who appear to have voted in two states during the same federal election.
  • 16 individuals who allegedly voted twice in Ohio within the same election.
  • 14 individuals who are suspected of voting after their death.
  • Four individuals accused of engaging in ballot harvesting.
  • Two individuals who registered at residences where they were not entitled to do so.

LaRose emphasized the importance of these findings in his correspondence with the DOJ, noting that previous referrals to local and state prosecutors have yielded varying results. He expressed optimism that the current administration at the White House and the DOJ would take a more active role in prosecuting federal election crimes.

As Ohio gears up for its next election on November 4, LaRose’s announcement serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to maintain the integrity of the electoral process. This week marks the final opportunity for Ohioans to vote early in the upcoming election.
