Crestview Local Schools Students Collaborate with Baker’s Golden Dairy for Ice Cream Project
Crestview Local Schools Foster Successful Business Partnerships Through Project-Based Learning
Crestview Local Schools in New Waterford have once again demonstrated their commitment to providing students with engaging and hands-on learning experiences through successful business partnerships. One standout project this year involved a collaboration between the kindergarten class and Baker’s Golden Dairy, a local dairy known for its flavored milk products and ice cream.
The project tasked the kindergarten class with developing and naming a new ice cream flavor. Guided by Kasey Baker of Baker’s Golden Dairy, the students embarked on a journey that included a tour of the farm, learning about the ice cream-making process, and brainstorming ideas for their own unique flavor. Baker provided guidelines and a list of possible ingredients for the students to use, sparking their creativity and imagination.
After much deliberation and collaboration, Katie Biondi’s class emerged victorious with their creation, “Rebel Road,” a delectable mix of chocolate and vanilla ice cream with brownie and cookie dough pieces. The students were actively involved in the decision-making process, taking votes on the ingredients and selecting the ones with the most votes for their ice cream.
On Friday, May 17, the kindergarten class had the opportunity to taste their winning creation, and the consensus was a unanimous thumbs up. Kasey Baker expressed her excitement for the new flavor, mentioning that she hopes “Rebel Road” will be available for purchase at the store on Carter Rd. in New Waterford and for home delivery around the first of June.
This project-based learning initiative is just one example of the successful collaborations that Crestview Local Schools have fostered this year. Other partnerships included first grade working with the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center’s landscape program, third grade partnering with Columbiana Nutrition and Bubble Tech, and eighth grade students working with Phantom Fireworks to develop a new firework product for possible retail store sales next July.
Through these innovative partnerships, Crestview Local Schools continue to provide students with real-world experiences that enhance their learning and prepare them for future success.
