Trump Threatens Military Deployments to Democratic Cities Amid Tensions with Maryland Governor

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump escalated his rhetoric on Sunday, suggesting he may expand military deployments to more Democratic-led cities in response to a challenge from Maryland Governor Wes Moore. The president’s comments came after Moore invited him to Baltimore to discuss public safety, which Trump dismissed, hinting instead at sending in the “troops.”

In a post on Truth Social, Trump criticized Moore’s record on crime, implying that the governor was manipulating crime statistics. He referenced his controversial deployment of National Guard troops in Los Angeles, stating, “If Wes Moore needs help, like Gavin Newscum did in L.A., I will send in the ‘troops.’”

Moore, a Democrat, countered Trump’s claims, asserting that the president is out of touch with the realities of crime in Baltimore. “The president is spending all of his time talking about me,” he said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.” “I’m spending my time talking about the people I serve.”

Trump’s recent military maneuvers have drawn sharp criticism from Democratic leaders across the nation. Following the deployment of thousands of National Guard and federal law enforcement officers to Washington, D.C., Trump has indicated that Chicago and New York could be next on his list. Reports suggest that the Pentagon has been preparing for operations in Chicago, which could involve both National Guard and active-duty forces.

“I think Chicago will be our next,” Trump told reporters, adding, “And then we’ll help with New York.” His comments have sparked outrage among local leaders, including Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, who stated there is no emergency justifying such actions in Chicago. “Donald Trump is attempting to manufacture a crisis,” Pritzker said, emphasizing the need to respect state sovereignty.

The Rev. Al Sharpton also weighed in, condemning the military presence in D.C. as a form of profiling. “This is laced with bigotry and racism,” he asserted, highlighting that no white mayors have been targeted for similar actions.

As tensions rise, the debate over the use of military force in urban areas continues to intensify, with critics arguing that such measures are politically motivated and disproportionately affect communities of color. The situation remains fluid as both sides prepare for potential confrontations in the coming weeks.
